A yummy Kiwi upstairs plus a hunky actor in love with Trina is almost too good to be true. After 10 years in Hollywood and $100,000 in student loans, our leading lady has a lot on her plate. But love (or a good lay) seemed lately out of grasp.
Matiu recently moved to LA to study set design with the best in the business to make his way into the New Zealand movie industry. Unimpressed by the Hollywood phonies, he wants desperately to finish classes, get home and continue his career. He hadn’t planned on the snarky, lovely, hard-to-get Trina to live just down the steps.
Hollywood Ending is a quick, but unrealistic read. It lacks the depth and complexity I find inspiring by authors like Kate Forster, Sophie Kinsella and Marian Keyes – but it’s still a fun book.
If you’re headed on a long flight soon (as Chardonnay and I are!) download this to your Kindle queue to pass the time with something more engaging than SkyMall, but less informative than the Emergency Card. (But you should read that, too.)
Pair Hollywood Ending with a light in-flight white. If you’re at home grab a glass of Three Wishes California Chardonnay. The notes of citrus in this white match Matiu’s fervor in his relentless – and spicy – quest for Trina. The sweet, harmonizing hints of apricot go nicely with Trina’s down-to-earth appeal in a city where characters can quickly become fake.
Hollywood Ending and Three Wishes California Chardonnay both lack complexity, but aren’t bad. They don’t make the summer “must” lists, but you won’t go wrong if you give them both a try.
PS – Chardonnay and I are headed to Prague, Barcelona and Paris! Where are your favorite nooks to read? The best wine bistros?
