While there are many new books lining my shelves waiting for review, I can’t let this blog exist without acknowledging the book that ignited the chick lit phenomenon in the first place: Bridget Jones’s Diary.
Today I want to take us back to a simpler time. A time before the economy crashed. A time before iPads. A time when Bridget taught us the joys of mixing diets and counting cigarettes. 1996.
Okay, so mixing diets doesn’t work, and no one should smoke. But this book did change my life.
For those of you who haven’t read Bridget Jones’s Diary, let me invite you to experience the quintessential classic chick lit book. Immortalized by Renee Zellweger on the big screen, Bridget Jones is a 30-something career girl on the quest for love, a good snog, and a smaller waste-line. Isn’t that what we’re all looking for?
So grab your friends Tom and Shazzer, hunt down your Mark Darcy, and pop a bottle from Spain’s Oldest Estate Bottled Winery. Albero Sparkling White is a sweet, spritzy wine crafted to to share with friends. I raise a glass to toast the roots of chick lit, and say cheers to the foundation of my favorite genre.
